Tyler Smith will race against Europe’s elite 16-19 year old juniors in the Chateauroux ETU Junior Elite Triathlon tomorrow

Smith is training with the Canadian junior elite triathlon group under coach Kelly Guest at a top facility in Spain. Also at the facility are coaches such as Jamie Turner, who trains the world number one female Gwen Jorgensen.

Smith, competing in the European Junior Elite triathlon series, started strong in his first event at the Holten ETU Triathlon Junior European Cup.

The 16-year-old battled extreme temperatures to finish 27th out of over 60 competitors with a time of 1hr 20sec, just over three minutes behind leader Gustav Iden of Norway.

Smith’s race gets under-way today at 1:15pm Bermuda time.
