Estwanik places in top three

Ashley Estwanik claimed a third-place finish in the women’s 40-44 age group at the Ironman 70.3 Chattanooga in Tennessee yesterday.

Estwanik, who will debut in the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race on Wednesday, finished 119th overall in a time of 4hr 26min 32sec.

The six-times Appleby Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby winner completed the 1.2-mile swim in 16:17, the 56-mile bike in 2:34:05 and the 13.1-mile run in 1:30:26.

Phil Mace was the top male Bermudian, placing second in the 40-44 age category in 4:07:04. Mace completed the swim in 15:34, the bike in 2:19:02 and run in 1:26:58.

Among the other Bermuda runners to complete the race were Geoff Smith 4:29:05, Alex Kronenburg 4:38:52, Alison Petty 4:45:20, Alex Shepherd 4:54:13, Louise Wells 4:58:15, Steve O’Reilly 5:06:16, Aine O’Sullivan 5:10:29, Claire McDevitt 5:14:16, Joel Matthews 5:17:15, Melissa Logie 5:21:59, Liz Stewart 5:23:19, Jen Wilson 5:25:23, Dianna White 5:26:30, Deanna Didyk 5:52:48

Sue Edney finished fourth in the women’s 55-59 age group at the Ironman Lanzarote with an overall time of 14:06:18 on Saturday. Edney completed the 3.8-kilometres swim in 1:21:20, the 182.2km bike in 7:23:54 and 42km run 5:05:07.

The race was won by Bart Aernouts, of Belgium, in 8:34:13, while Lucy Charles, of Britain, put in a strong all-round performance to finish as the first woman in 9:35:40.
