World Junior Tennis team beat Aruba 3-0

Bermuda’s World Junior Tennis team won their last group match convincingly on Wednesday.

After losing to Dominican Republic and Costa Rica in their opening two matches, they dominated Aruba to win all three of their matches in the tie, with Tobiah Goodchild starting things off in style by winning 6-0, 6-2.

That stellar performance was backed up by Tristan Pettit, who won 6-0, 6-1 with Goodchild and Jaden Jones winning the doubles match to round off a 3-0 win much to the delight of coach Terry Smith.

“Aruba really had no answers to Bermuda today,” Smith said.

“The players were very focused and played with good discipline with lots of comments and compliments from other coaches and the ITF representative, who commented on their focus.

Bermuda now move on to the knockout stages with a match against Barbados on Thursday but Smith is in a confident mood.

“It appears as if we will play Barbados, who beat Bahamas surprisingly,” Smith said

“They seem to have small players so they should not pose too many problems. We are not going to take them for granted and will stay focused. We’ll reflect in our team meeting and make plans.”
