Bermuda swimmers fly out for Planet Swim Championships

A team of 12 Bermuda swimmers have flown out compete in the 2025 Planet Swim Summer Championships in Ponte Vedra, Florida.

The event, which takes place from Friday until Sunday, will be held in an Olympic-standard pool and offers a high-performance racing environment with preliminaries and finals for swimmers aged 11 and over.

Bermuda’s participation comes after the postponement of the Central American and Caribbean Swimming Championships, with the event selected by national coach Ben Smith to provide continuity in the national programme’s racing calendar.

In order to compete, development-level swimmers have been included after reaching two AA standards alongside national team veterans, who offer valuable international experience for the next generation of athletes.

“Team Bermuda will compete across a total of 63 individual events, spanning sprint, middle-distance, and endurance events along with relays,” Smith said.

“The competition promises to be a challenging and rewarding experience with strong Florida region talent to race against and opportunities to qualify for finals.

“We would like to thank the Department of Sport and Recreation, Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association, athlete families, and supporters who make these international opportunities possible.”

The swimmers will also be accompanied by team managers Shirene Fulton and Rebecca White.
