Jorgia White produced the standout performance for Team Bermuda as she broke a national record at the Planet Swim Summer Championships in Florida on Sunday.

White broke her own mark in the girls 1500 metres freestyle when touching the wall in 19min 25.07sec, lowering her previous best by more than nine seconds when finishing sixth in the final.

Caleb Ingham and Brian Desmond, who had been among the medals on Saturday, again made it to the podium a day later.

Desmond, who 24 hours earlier had won silver in the 100 metres backstroke, picked up the same colour medal in the 100 freestyle and finished a place in front of Ingham, who added another bronze to his third-place finish in the 50 metres freestyle. Logan Jones finished seventh in the race.

National swimming coach Ben Smith was delighted with his swimmers as the event was chosen only as a replacement for the Central American and Caribbean Championships, which was postponed.

“This has been an amazing experience for our swimmers,” Smith said.

“The new Bermuda team kit was a hit for our swimmers and for all swimmers and officials at the meet. The pink and blue were well represented with medals, personal bests and a record swim.

“The team had a great time and were so supportive for each other. This is what sport is about. Our university grads showed their experience and shared their knowledge with the young swimmers that are following in the footsteps. Seeing young people show leadership, resilience and teamwork is what makes me proud as a coach.

“This meet was a success because 12 young people that have worked hard all season had this opportunity to represent Bermuda.”
