Bermuda squad announced for Carifta Aquatics Championships

Bermuda will be sending a strong team of 19 swimmers to the Carifta Aquatics Championships next month.

In terms of numbers, the 2026 squad contains 14 more athletes than the team sent to Trinidad & Tobago last year and will be hoping to bring home more hardware than in 2025, when Thomas Cechini picked up three bronze medals.

Cechini has aged out of the championships but previous medal winner Connor Hupman, who picked up seven individual medals in the boys 13-14 age group in 2024 is again making the trip but in the older age group.

Katherine Wheddon and Rory Shepherd have also made it to the podium in previous Cariftas, while Jorgia White last year broke the 17-18 age group national record in the 1,500 metres freestyle.

Marleigh Howes recently broke a 42-year-old age-group record in the 200 metres butterfly, lowering Mary Mowbray’s mark set in 1983.

Bermuda have two representatives in the 11 to 12 age group in Colette Durkin and Madison Fox, with Shepherd, Scarlett Spurling and Dominic Wright qualifying in the 13 to 14 age group.

Howes, White and Wheddon are joined by Gabriella Cechini, Elanna Fulton, Maggie Mewett, Teagan Mewett and Violet Smith in the 15 to 17 female age group.

Hupman is in the 15 to 17 boys division alongside Logan Jones, Joseph Lau, Gabriel Maranzana, Noah Maranzana and Axel Wernbo

The championships are scheduled to take place in Martinique from April 3 to 8
