Bermuda swimmers through to Carifta finals

Bermuda’s Carifta swimming squad

Teagan Mewett, Connor Hupman, Rory Shepherd, Dominic Wright, Marleigh Howes and Violet Smith will be chasing medals in finals at the Carifta Aquatics Championships on Saturday evening.

Mewett won her heat in the 200 metres breaststroke in a time of 2min 45.07sec, qualifying second-fastest for tonight’s final behind local favourite Jade Bering, of Martinique, who posted the event’s quickest time of 2:39.20.

Hupman will be contesting the final of the boys 15-17 50 metres backstroke. He finished second in heat three in 27.26, which was good enough for him to qualify fourth overall.

Marleigh Howes will take part in the girls 15-17 100 metres butterfly final, qualifying seventh fastest in 1:06.92.

Rory Shepherd and Dominic Wright both made it into the final of the boys 13-14 50 metres backstroke, qualifying in fifth and seventh with times of 29.56 and 30.00 respectively.

Violet Smith made it into the 50 metres backstroke final. She posted 31.58 to finish second in heat three and qualify seventh fastest.

Also competing in the morning session but failing to make the finals in various events were Scarlett Spurling, Maggie Mewett, Noah Maranzana, Joseph Lau, Madison Fox, Colette Durkin, Axel Wernbo, Logan Jones and Elanna Fulton.
