iPod classic - an oldie but goody

This week we’re going to take a look at the iPod classic, which some may perceive as less trendy or progressive because of the use classic in its name.Let’s get started by saying this device is a media powerhouse so let’s dispel all rumours of it being your grandfather’s device of choice. The storage capacity of the iPod classic has evolved significantly since its introduction in 2001, offering consumers a meagre five gigabyte (GB) hard drive that held approximately 1,000 songs to the classic we know today, 160GB strong and capable of holding 40,000 songs.Unlike its sisters, the classic has maintained its original look for the most part, but Apple continues to develop the capabilities of the device. The sixth generation classic sports a 2.5 inch display screen that will allow you to watch your favourite movies, view photos or play old favourites such as Vortex, iQuiz, and Klondike that were designed specifically for the click wheel feature of this device. Don’t forget the iTunes store also carries TV programmes for rent or sale and audio podcasts that you can download and watch at your leisure. When fully charged, the device can support 36 hours of audio or 6 hours of video, a must have for the avid traveller or for the daily drive from Somerset to Hamilton and back with your kids.Device controls are centrally located on the face of the device and you have access to playlist functionality and can search by song lists, title artist and a few others. The classic also provides standard features found in its siblings such as Genius and shuffle song features.Although the classic doesn’t have all the bells and whistles available on the iTouch, it is a solid, high capacity, convenient to transport, media storage device that will meet your expectations. It is also a great device for family events; simply load all your favourite photos and/or family videos onto the device, stick it in your pocket and go! When you arrive at the family function, plug it into any TV that can facilitate a composite AV cable, and then let the slideshow begin. The iPod Classic is truly a portable DJ and if your destination doesn’t have high tech speakers and surround sound, I’m pretty sure they will have an iPod dock of some sort that will do the trick.Next week we’ll be checking out the iPod touch and all the extraordinary features it has to offer.
