Selecting the right gaming console
This week we’ll take a look at gaming consoles and which one best suits the needs of your family dynamic.Selecting the right gaming console can be overwhelming, especially for those not familiar with the distinct nuances of each brand. Today, we will help shed some light on what each has to offer, to make the process less stressful.Question # 1- Is the gaming console going to be used solely by the person you are buying it for or will it be used by various members of the family? If it’s only be used by the recipient then the decision has been made for you already, if the latter applies we need to dig a bit deeper. In general, the Nintendo Wii is recognised as the more family friendly gaming console and caters to the needs of the very young to the mature adult. They boast over 950 games and are capable of playing some of the old favorites and now have a section titled Edutainment that offers tools such as Sesame Street’s Ready, Set, Grover and Science Papa to encourage learning through interactive play.Unlike their competitors, the Wii cannot play CD’s and/or DVD’s nor is it known for its graphics but does the job as a cost effective, family friendly gaming device. There is lots of controversy behind which console rules when it comes to PS3 and Xbox 360, primarily due to user preference. In general these are the gaming systems of choice for hard core or advanced gamers who enjoy enhanced graphics, and participate in online gaming. Both the PS3 and Xbox are offered in bundles that contain additional equipment and games if you’re looking for a more comprehensive solution. The PS3 slim is available in a Move bundle that includes a DualShock controller, Move Motion controller, Playstation eye camera and Sports Champions game and is equipped with a 320GB hard drive and the Xbox 360 offers a 250GB Holiday Bundle that comes with two free games, controller and a three-month Xbox LIVE Gold membership. There are pros and cons to both of these devices and the decision is based on how you intend to use the system. Both of the consoles are capable of playing movies, the PS3 however is armed with its proprietary Blu-Ray player. Although the Xbox 360 is void of a Blu-Ray player, it allows consumers to use older game versions whereas the PS3 does not, which can become a bit costly.Personally, I find the hands free gaming of the Xbox Kinect and PS3 Move the most exciting feature of all. Imagine the ability to feel as if you are a part of the game without the restraints of a controller. Bear in mind there are far fewer games available for this specific feature. There is an awful lot to consider when purchasing a gaming console, so before you make a final decision spend a few minutes online looking at the games that each brand offers and explore some of the additional benefits to establish which, is the best fit.Next week we’ll take a look at some fantastic gift ideas for that someone that has everything.
