Q: What is peer-to-peer file sharing?

Peer-to-peer file sharing (P2P) is the ability to share files located on your PC through the internet with others. P2P allows you to search for, locate and download files of interest among a common network of users. In order to access P2P, users need to download and configure file sharing software.

A:

The concept of P2P is a commendable one, but unfortunately it is being exploited and often used to share proprietary/copyrighted content such as music, movies and software.

P2P also presents great risk to users as content downloaded cannot be verified as trustworthy and in the absence of anti- virus software and firewalls can expose confidential information to unwanted users.
