CellOne selling in-demand new Galaxy

iPhone Killer?: Despite having a screen nearly twice the size, the new Samsung Galaxy SIII is slimmer and lighter than the iPhone 4S.

CellOne announced yesterday that it’s now selling the hugely popular new Samsung Galaxy S3 Android smartphone.On Wednesday, The Royal Gazette reported that Audio Visual Electronics was the first to have the phone in stock last week and promptly sold out in a day.Now Bermuda’s cell phone companies are joining in on the action with CellOne announcing they have it for sale for $699 with a two-year contract and Digicel reporting they will soon have the device on store shelves as well.“The Samsung Galaxy SIII is Samsung’s new flagship model following the great success of the Galaxy SII which has sold over 50 million devices worldwide,” said CellOne chief operating officer, Frank Amaral. “CellOne’s launch of the SII eight months ago was so well received that it was only natural for us to offer the next evolution of the best selling Android device ever to come to market.”First reviewers peg the big, bold Samsung Galaxy S3 as the most powerful, capable Android smartphone released to date, offering a winning combination of style, performance and features that just might give the iPhone a run for its money.At 4.8 inches, the phone has one of the largest touch screens on the market and features comparable to many laptop computers — all packed into a casing that’s slimmer and lighter than the iPhone.Industry watchers say giant, bold mega-phones are the new trend — making the Galaxy S3 so popular right now, US carriers are having a hard time keeping up with demand.The phone launched in the US yesterday, but Americans who haven’t pre-ordered it will have to wait to get their hands on one. Two of the five major US carriers are already reporting shortages.
