Apple cuts MacBook Pro price, updates processors

Price drop: Apple has cut the cost of its 13 inch MacBook Pro laptop by $200.

Apple is slashing the price of one of its most popular laptops.The company has lowered the price of its 13-inch MacBook Pro laptops by $200 while simultaneously updating the device with faster processors. It also launched new models with faster processors and more memory.The 13-inch MacBook Pro with "Retina" display and 128GB of flash memory will now cost $1,499, down from $1,699. A new model with 256GBof flash will cost $1,699. The higher-end model also includes a more robust 2.6GHz Intel Core i5 processor.The 15-inch model is also getting improved specs, but its price will remain the same. That model starts at $2,199, but now that buys you a quad-core 2.4GHz Core i7 processor. The top of the line 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro, which now comes with a quad-core 2.7GHz Core i7 processor and 16GB of RAM will set you back $2,799.Apple unveiled the new MacBook Pro models last fall. They feature flash memory instead of the traditional hard drive, which makes the laptops thinner and lighter.Apple reported a surprising decline in Mac sales in the final quarter of 2012. It sold 4.1 million of them, down 22 percent from shipments a year earlier.Industry analysts have attributed the price drops to the falling prices of components such as RAM and flash storage.
