The first day of the Temple of Tennis Junior Challenge Tournament took place at Port Royal courts on Thursday night.

In the under-12 girls division, there was a fantastic quarter-final encounter with Hattie Hughes edging past Francesca Cressall-Haycock 6-4 6-7 (12-10) in a titanic struggle.

Tobiah Goodchild defeated Riley Maybury without dropping a game to progress from the third round of the boys under-16 division.

A couple of the more familiar names in youth tennis, Nadhira Durham and Sebastian Pukk, made light work of their opponents in the first round of the women’s and men’s under-18 tournaments respectively.

Durham beat Samantha Morgan 6-2 6-1, while Pukk got the better of Jadon Spriggs 6-1 6-1.
