Daniel Phillips fought from a set down to book a spot in the second round of the M15 Monastir in Tunisia, on Wednesday.

The Bermudian, who came through three rounds of qualifying, beat Michael Bassem Sobhy, from Egypt, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round. He will now face American Cooper Williams on Thursday with an pportunity to make it to the quarter-finals.

It was the third professional win for Phillips following his brilliant run at the ITF 15K tournament in Kayseri, Turkey, where he reached the quarter-finals before falling to Nino Ehrenschneider, the No 1 seed.

The 20-year-old has been on fire since playing a crucial role in Bermuda securing a spot in the Davis Cup World Group II play-offs, to be played early next year.

While waiting for a switch from Arizona State University to Tulane in New Orleans, Louisiana, next month, Phillips is playing in his first senior ITF tournaments.

The first tournament in Turkey saw him fall in the third round of qualifying. He fought hard in the second, where he went on to secure his first ATP points, to officially become a professional player.
