“I’m really excited and proud of the whole week,” Carrick said.
“I wish I could have brought home the gold but I’m happy to start the chain. I’m going to be rooting hard for the rest of the team to bring home some medals too.”
Carrick has another chance to push for a medal whenhe combines forces with Neil Pohlman in the quarter-finals of the men’s doubles, which start on Wednesday. The two square off with Matthew Boote and Antony Harkin, from Jersey, for a spot in the semi-finals.
Micah Franklin, the head of squash at the Bermuda Squash Association, commended the island’s No 1 player for showing resilience on his way to the final.
“We are very proud of Taylor for winning a silver medal at the Island Games,” he said.
“The manner in which he made the final by winning back-to-back five-setters in 24 hours was a heroic effort.
“It shows Taylor’s fight and determination to get over the finish line. There are no doubts in my mind that he will only continue to grow physically and mentally to go one better next time.
“He enjoys full support from everyone at the Bermuda Squash Association in all his endeavours.”
