Bermuda men’s squash team aiming for CAC Games
Bermuda men will be eyeing qualification for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games at the Caribbean Area Squash Association Championships in Guyana.
With the women having already secured a ticket to Dominican Republic at the Pan American Squash Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in August, the men now have a chance to do the same.
Taylor Carrick, Micah Franklin, Noah Browne, Anaya Smith and D'Vario Thompson are the players tasked with trying to take Bermuda’s men to the CAC Games.
Franklin, the Bermuda Squash Association’s head of squash, believes that they have a great opportunity to qualify at the eight-nation event.
“I know we have to finish in the top five in the men's event with Barbados and Guyana having already qualified,” Franklin said.
“It means we really have to finish in the top three without those two countries. There’s eight countries in total, so I think we have a really good chance of qualifying.
“We also have a very strong team, probably the strongest team that we could send to one of these. We’re going into it with high expectations, we just have to make sure everybody's fit and focused.”
Most of the Bermuda players were actively involved in last week’s BSA Club Championships.
Anaya Smith recovered from two games down to defeat Noah Browne 3-2 in the men’s final. Browne had triumphed 3-0 over D'Vario Thompson in the semi-finals.
Susie Howells won the women’s over-40, having also got to the Women’s Open semi-finals, where she was bested by Eilidh Franklin, the losing finalist.
Abigail Brewer was knocked out at the semi-final stage by Rachel Barnes, the women’s champion. Hadleigh Farrer clinched the men’s over-50 and also reached the over-40 final.
Peter Drury was one of the four participants in a round-robin for the men’s over-60, while Denise Kyme and Deborah played in the women’s over-50.
