Bermuda’s men’s team qualified for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games when the Caribbean Area Squash Association Championships concluded in Guyana on Saturday.

Taylor Carrick, Micah Franklin, Noah Browne, Anaya Smith and D'Vario Thompson finished third, which ensured they joined the women’s team in heading to the CAC Games in Dominican Republic.

The women, who had already qualified for their first CAC Games before they headed to Guyana, also had a brilliant tournament as they finished third, while a combination of the men, women and veterans were third overall, behind Barbados and Guyana.

Franklin, the Bermuda Squash Association’s head of squash, was part of the team at the 2018 CAC Games in Colombia, the last time Bermuda qualified, and is excited that he will get the chance to again compete on the big stage.

“From a player’s perspective, I’m ecstatic and really happy to perform to the best of our abilities this tournament to get over the line and finish in that top five,” Franklin told The Royal Gazette.

“We would have loved to have gone a bit further and even competed for first and second, but I'm thrilled to have done what we could to get to that third spot and qualify.

“From the coaching perspective, I’m proud of the team and what they’ve put into it. I’m really happy that everybody kept focused on the vision.

“It was a long tournament with a lot of hard matches, but I'm proud of the resilience of the team for getting over the line and getting the job done.

“I can't wait to get back to training so that we can prepare for CAC Games now.”
