Bermuda’s Davis Cup World Group II play-off against Georgia in February will be played on neutral turf in Cyprus.

Georgia was initially scheduled to host the matches on February 6 and 7, but lack of suitable facilities in the transcontinental country has forced the International Tennis Federation to settle for an alternative venue.

While the Georgians retain hosting status, the fixture is taking place at Herodotou Tennis Academy, a hard court facility in Larnaca.

Michael Wolfe, the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association president, is not concerned over the venue change with their focus solely on fielding a competitive team.

“We are incredibly proud of our team for reaching the 2026 Davis Cup World Group II play-offs,” Wolfe told The Royal Gazette.

“While the change of venue from Georgia to Cyprus presents a new logistical landscape, our focus remains steadfast on the competition at hand on February 6 and 7.

“Under the leadership of national tennis director Ricky Mallory Jr, our local squad is training intensely, while our overseas-based players, Trey Mallory and Daniel Phillips, continue their high-level preparation in the United States.

“We are currently finalising our strongest four-man roster through December play-offs to ensure Bermuda is represented with excellence on the hard courts in Larnaca.

“This is a significant milestone for Bermuda tennis. We are actively inviting community partners and sponsors to join us in supporting these athletes as they compete on the world stage.

“Your support is vital in helping our team navigate the travel and training requirements for this historic opportunity.

“The BLTA is actively seeking sponsorship to cover the team’s travel and training requirements. Interested sponsors can contact the BLTA at sponsorship@blta.bm.”

With the official team submission deadline on December 31, players are engaged in matches to be used by the selectors in finalising the squad.

Zachary McGuire, Evan Heyliger, Jack Keyes, Tariq Simons and Wayne Montgomery are the locally-based players vying for spots. Neal Towlson is part of the training squad as a hitting partner.
