Tourism Minister touts Atlanta trip

A trip to Atlanta proved “an outstanding opportunity” to sell Bermuda as a place to holiday and do business, said Tourism Minister Patrice Minors.Ms Minors and a Bermuda delegation returned Friday from a visit to Buckhead, an affluent community in the north of Atlanta. Buckhead was recently declared a “sister community” to Hamilton. Government has said the trip was part of an effort to “generate economic development and tourism among the citizens of both destinations”.While there, the Bermuda delegation met with various news media and business leaders including former Atlanta Mayor and Buckhead Coalition president Sam Massell.Said Ms Minors: “I [got] a sense of home here that I don’t always get in other destinations in the way that people on the street are so friendly and will say hello just as we do in Bermuda. This visit has been an outstanding opportunity to both sell Bermuda as a vacation destination and as a place to do business. Having the opportunity to speak with such a prestigious group of CEOs and business leaders was very valuable. There is no doubt in my mind that this region is an excellent fit for Bermuda and we are appreciative of the Buckhead Coalition for giving us the opportunity to explore ways to mutually benefit our respective communities.”Chamber of Commerce president Stephen Todd; acting permanent secretary for Business Development and Tourism Michelle Khaldun; Tourism director William Griffith; assistant Director of Tourism Jasmin Smith and legislative assistant for the Business Development and Tourism Ministry, Travis Gilbert, accompanied Ms Minors on the trip.
