Bermuda tourism promotion at Grand Central Station wins top award

The Bermuda Department of Tourism has won an international award for a creative marketing event at New York’s Grand Central Station.The advertising push took place on March 30 in the historic Vanderbilt Hall and included a live band, on-air interviews with CBS Radio and WPIX-TV personalities, performances by Gombey dancers, a Bermuda shorts fashion show and vacation giveaways.Several hotels, including Grotto Bay Beach Resort, Fairmont Hotels, Rosewood Tucker’s Point and Elbow Beach Bermuda provided representatives to serve as Bermudian ambassadors.The Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) now plans to recognise BDOT for the event with a Bronze Adrian Award for public relations excellence. According to a press release from Tourism, the 55th Annual Adrian Awards is the largest and most prestigious travel marketing competition globally. This year’s contest attracted nearly 1,000 entries from around the world, with entries judged by top executives from all sectors of the industry.The award will be handed out at a black tie event on February 27 at New York’s Marriott Marquis hotel. It’s expected that more than 1,000 hospitality, travel and tourism marketing executives will attend.Minister of Business Development and Tourism Wayne Furbert said: “We are honoured to receive an award from such an esteemed organisation as HSMAI. Having the event at such a high profile locale such as Grand Central Station in our top feeder market of New York City was a great way to promote our Island to a key demographic and provide a virtual showcase for our destination to the thousands of commuters travelling in and out of New York City that day. We are very grateful to our partners who worked with us and accept this award with tremendous gratitude.”
