Tourism minister outlines first quarter marketing efforts

The Ministry of Tourism will appoint a new advertising agency this month, Minister Wayne Furbert announced last night.He said 29 responses were received in response to the new agency RFP.“All have been evaluated by a panel and seven agencies shortlisted. Final interviews will be held during the week of January 16,” the Minister said.The first quarter of 2012 will see the launch of Restaurant Week, which starts in mid January with 33 restaurants participating, the Feel the Love Month and Spring Break, followed by College Week.“We see this (College) Week as a huge opportunity to attract baby boomers who can stroll down memory lane with three full days of celebratory events, top notch dining and a range of activities.”The Tourism Department will also be promoting Bermuda Golf at the PGA Expo in Orlando, Florida at the end of this month.And in February, a full day of Bermuda promotional activities will be on at the Vanderbilt Hall at New York’s Grand Central Station.“On February 16, our CBS radio partners will be there to support the day and we are looking at putting on a host of events throughout the day to capture as much interest as possible. In order to optimise this space we will then host a Trade event during the evening inviting our key travel agency and meetings partners,” said the Minister.Tourism is also set to repeat last year’s use of a pink trolley bus in Canada and the UK. This time the bus will be seen in Boston and Toronto.Minister Furbert said: “The first quarter is key to our business success and it is my intention that we maximise every opportunity available to us.”
