Photographer: ‘I don’t even have Photoshop on my PC’

Professional photographer Bruce Leseur says he’s perplexed by online chatter over his romantic photograph used to advertise Bermuda tourism. The picture of a wedding couple embracing set tongues wagging on Friday after Psdisaster.com labelled it a “Photoshop disaster”.That set off a local debate over whether or not the picture on the Bermuda Department of Tourism website had actually been doctored. For those still wondering Mr Leseur has an easy answer: “I don’t even have Photoshop on my PC.”He told The Royal Gazette. “I believe in portraying the Bermuda reality. There’s no way in hell I would do Photoshop on one of my pictures. That photo has not been touched.”Online commenters insisted the picture had been altered, leaving viewers with the impression of a bride with a short arm.BDoT quickly replaced the image with that of a different bride and groom.“That picture has been up there on the website for the last three years,” Mr Leseur said, adding that the original was taken in July 2007.“I guess it takes five years to get known as an artist in Bermuda,” he joked. For those wondering about the bride’s arm in the original shot, Mr Leseur said it was probably a feature of the angle at which the photo was taken. The picture is part of a sequence where some were taken from a low angle, and a chink of light shows beneath the bride’s arm.“My wife thought it could be a bit of reflection,” added Mr Leseur. “But whatever it is, it’s caused a nice story. It just shows what one photo can do.”BDoT declined to comment for this story.
