Hotelier David Dodwell is confident that he can find investment for his latest project, saying that there is renewed optimism about the Island from financial backers.Mr Dodwell is a shareholder IRC Sandys, which has leased land from Government quango the Bermuda Land Development Company to operate the 9 Beaches resort in the east end.Last year IRC said it was seeking to pump around $80 million into the resort before reopening, but it was later revealed that the company was running into financial difficulties.Yesterday Mr Dodwell, who also runs The Reefs hotel in Southampton and is chairman of the Tourism Board, said last December’s general election delayed developments, with both investors and hoteliers “waiting to see what happened” should there be a change in Government.“Everyone paused from around October and so really we lost about four months because of the election,” Mr Dodwell said.“But there is a great deal of optimism about Bermuda at the moment and we are very confident that we can get the funding in place.”9 Beaches is just one of a number of resorts hoping to get a major facelift in the coming months. Work on a $70 million revamp of the Fairmont Hamilton Princess is due to start next month, while Morgan’s Point developers hope to break ground on a boutique hotel at the location by the end of the year. And this week it was confirmed that the Pink Beach Club is to close for the off-season in order for renovation work to be carried out.
