Bermuda among top five Islands in region
Bermuda has been crowned one of the five best islands in this part of the world by travellers — and one of our hotels has been praised as among the best in the world.
The Island beat off competition from across the Caribbean and Bahamas to take the fourth spot for the region in Travel and Leisure's Best Of Awards.
The rankings determine the “hotels, destinations and companies that define the very best in travel” and are compiled from readers' votes.
Bermuda did not make the list last year.
Meanwhile, Fairmont Southampton Resort has been voted into the annual Insiders' Select list, a chart of the best-reviewed hotels on Expedia.com.
The exclusive list features just 650 hotels from the more than 290,000 bookable properties on the website.
Fairmont Southampton is one of the top 18 hotels in the region, classed as the Caribbean by the site, to be included.
The list is compiled from nearly two million annual, verified guest reviews and in-house experts.
George Terpilowski, managing director of Fairmont Bermuda, said: “The Fairmont Southampton is thrilled to be recognised as a top hotel by Expedia.
“Our partnership with Expedia has continued to be an important driver of guests to Bermuda and we are pleased that their users have had enjoyable experiences during their visits to The Fairmont Southampton.”
Bermuda was beaten in Travel + Leisure's 19th annual poll by Virgin Gorda, the British Virgin Islands; Exumas, Bahamas; and St John, US Virgin Islands. St Lucia completed the top five islands in the region.
Fairmont Southampton ranks alongside Yepton Estate Cottages in St John's, Antigua, and Battaleys Mews in Barbados as one of the 18 best hotels in the region.
The best-ranked hotel in the world was the four-star Lakehouse Hotel and Resort in San Marcos, California. Fairmont Southampton ranked 644th in the global list.
