Former vice-president no longer with BTA
A member of the Bermuda Tourism Authority’s executive team who was put on administrative leave has left the organisation.
The departure of Tashae Thompson, the quango’s vice-president of experiences, was confirmed yesterday by the authority.
A BTA spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that Tashae Thompson is no longer with the Bermuda Tourism Authority.
“Ms Thompson joined the organisation in 2014 and made valued contributions during her tenure.
“We are grateful for the contributions she made during her time with the BTA and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
“As this is a personnel matter, we will not be providing further comment.”
The BTA board confirmed in March that two executive members of staff were on administrative leave.
While it did not name the two, Ms Thompson was understood to be one of them, with the other understood to have been Tracy Berkeley, the chief executive.
The periods of leave came after a culture review of the BTA’s workplace environment, the findings of which were released to the public in March.
The review found that “mistrust”, “domineering” and “siloed” were words consistently used when interviewees described the workplace culture.
More than half of the character traits used to describe the workplace culture were positive and the assessment noted that the negative traits used carried low to medium “severities of risk”.
In April, a source told the Gazette that not all staff at the quango felt “bullied” or “siloed” and some were dismayed at the suspension of Ms Berkeley, who was in charge of the tourism authority since June 2022.
The person, who had knowledge of the situation and asked not to be identified, spoke highly of Ms Thompson and described her as “passionate, always fighting for people, always fighting for staff”.
The BTA has provided no update on the status of Ms Berkeley’s employment.
