Ashley-Bean signs for Virginia State
Bermuda middle distance runner Taylor Ashley-Bean has been recruited by Virginia State University on an athletic scholarship.The 17-year-old, who graduated from Warwick Academy last week, signed a letter of intent at the Department of Youth and Sport on Church Street yesterday. The daughter of former Somerset Eagles and Southampton Rangers footballer Wayne Bean was accepted at Virginia State after representing the Island at this year’s Carifta Games in Jamaica.The 800m and 1,500m specialist hopes to follow in the footsteps of compatriots Aaron Evans and Arantxa King who have already made their mark at the NCAA level.Ashley-Bean, a 800 and 1500m specialist, plans to study business marketing at university. She won a bronze medal in the 3,000m at 2010 Carifta Games.
