Tyrone grabs gold at CACs

Bermuda long jumper Tyrone Smith claimed the gold medal in the long jump at the CAC Senior Championships in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, at the weekend.Smith, who won a gold at last summer's CAC Games also in Puerto Rico, posted a leap of 8.06 metres.Long jumper Arantxa King won Bermuda's second medal at the Championships with a personal best jump of 6.47m. Her team-mate, Jasmine Brunson, finished eighth in the event.In his first international competition, Lamont Marshall placed sixth in the 5,000 metres in a time of 14 minutes and 53 seconds, and came 11th in the 1,500m in 3:55.00.Darico Clarke placed sixth in his heat of the 800m with a time of 1:58.69 while sprinter Tre Houston finished sixth in the 200m preliminaries in 21.47 seconds. Neither athlete qualified for the semi-finals.In the women's 100m hurdles heptathlon event, Shianne Smith finished seventh with a time of 14.75 while her team-mate Andrea Jackson recorded a time of 15.33.With a leap of 1.59m, Smith finished third in the high jump heptathlon with Jackson coming fifth after jumping 1.56m. Jackson then finished third in the shot put heptathlon with a throw of 11.98m while Smith came seventh throwing 10.61m.Smith finished sixth overall in the heptathlon, three positions ahead of Jackson.
