Jennifer Alen received a major boost for the 2011/12 road race season after gaining a sponsorship deal with local betting agents, GameTime Ltd.Alen is current the Butterfield and Vallis 5K champion and came agonisingly close to winning this year’s May 24 Derby, collapsing within a mile of the finish line due to fatigue.Over the weekend she finished first in her age group at the New York Fifth Avenue Mile. She’s been one of Bermuda’s top road runners over the last three years and will be one of the favourites for this weekend’s hugely popular PartnerRe 5K, having won the event last year. Her sponsorship includes paying for running and training clothes and an entry fee for the Bermuda Day derby, as well as bonuses for winning regular road races. This isn’t GameTime’s first foray into athletics. Back in May, they came to the rescue of the Bermuda Day derby, sponsoring age group prizes after a last-minute public plea for help by t race organisers. The company are also club sponsors of Western Stars cricket team and the Dandy Town football team.“We got a lot of positive feedback from our May 24th prizes sponsorship and thought we could expand upon that by sponsoring a leading runner,” said Cleon Scotland. “Leading male runner Sean Trott was earlier this year sponsored by www.zing.bm, so we thought it would be a good idea to sponsor a leading female.“Runners are some of the most photographed athletes in Bermuda, so the exposure should be good for us.“Combine that with our Western Stars/Dandy Town sponsorships and every weekend, someone should see the GameTime logo year-round.”
