Fast improving Bean breaks her own mark
Taylor-Ashley Bean shattered her own Junior National 800 metres record at this week’s Virginia Tech-Roanoke College Twilight in Salem, Virginia.The local middle distance runner broke the record for the second time in five days after covering the distance in 2:10.53 to finish second in her race.That strong performance bettered the previous record (2:12.72) she established competing at Duke University last weekend by more than two seconds.Bean has improved her time in the 800 metres several times within the past six weeks, with Thursday’s display catapulting her into sixth place in the NCAA Division II national rankings.“Taylor-Ashley Bean has demonstrated the quality of middle distance running and record breaking performances by a junior female athlete that leaves no doubt that she is having a golden season,” commented Bean’s coach, Gerry Swan.“Taylor-Ashley has set four Junior National Record marks at three different distances within the past six week period. Her current national ranking represents a jump upwards of 19 places since her Sunday record breaking performance.”Bean set a new Junior Women’s National record in the 1500 metres (4:42.82) at March’s Fred Hardy Invitational in Richmond, Virginia.She then added the 3000 metres mark to her collection with a time of 10:22.82 en route to claiming the silver medal at April’s Carifta Games before twice breaking the Junior Women’s National record in the 800 metres.The previous Junior Women’s records in the 1500 metres and 800 metres were held by Bean’s elder sister Alexis.
