Lewis happy with last-minute preparations

Jessica Lewis at the opening ceremonies in London

Jessica Lewis is taking in all the pageantry and elegance of the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.Lewis has been able to get in a few practise runs ahead of last night’s Opening Ceremony, entitled Enlightenment, held at the Olympic Stadium.“I went on a tour of the route the athletes will take from the first call room to the official field of play in the Olympic Stadium,” said the Bermudian.“It was amazing walking through the tunnel and wondering what the athletes will be thinking as they head for their races.“We were not allowed into the actual stadium as it is in the hands of the top secret organisers and set up crew for the opening ceremony.“The starter of the races was there with the start gun so the athletes had turns doing starts ‘under the gun’.”The local officials also had to get their ceremonial dress inspected, with strict rules in place to ensure that there aren’t any discrepancies between manufacturers and competing countries.“We cannot have any visible logos of the manufacturer on our clothing,” added Lewis, who is competing in her first Paralympics. The sprinter will compete in the 100, 200 and 400 metres, and was recently interviewed by British TV Channel 4.
