Bermuda runner Dage Minors has backed himself to produce the goods when steps onto the track in Bahamas this weekend. The 800 and 1,500 metres specialist will compete in his favoured events at the Carifta Games, and will look to carry his high school form into the annual spectacle.“My season has been great and I feel my chances of medalling are just as good as anyone else competing in the meet,” said Minors. The rising star was named Male Athlete of the Year for Vermont’s Indoor Track State Championships last month after he capped off a memorable season. He was in fine form at the Championships powering to victories in the 1,600 metres, 1,000 metres and the 600 metres.Minors accomplished his triple in back-to-back fashion, and then helped his St Johnsbury’s Academy’s 4x400 metre relay team claim a narrow victory over rivals Mount Anthony Union High School. He also won this year’s KPMG High School Male Front Street Mile in January.“I don't think I have any points to prove to anyone but just to represent my family, myself, and my country to the best of my ability. If I can do this I will be happy,” said the 17-year-old.“I have no idea about my chances; I don’t know anybody that I'm racing against, but in the end it’s the race I run that will determine how I make out. I’m not worrying about anyone else.”Bermuda’s team arrived in the Bahamas in preparation for the Games on Thursday and were greeted by a Gombey troop.Bermuda National Athletics Association (BNAA) president Donna Watson met the local contingent in the Caribbean, with Director of Youth and Sports Norbert Simons also on hand.“It was a great reception for the team when they arrived and we wish them well,” said Simons. “I’m hoping they perform well, the venue looks good and as long as they get accustomed to the atmosphere of 30,000 plus fans cheering on their respective countries then they will do well.”The Games opening ceremony was held last night with the first day of events scheduled to start today.
