Dill runs season’s best
Shaquille Dill ran a season best time in the 800 metres at the second of a series of four New Balance Boston Twilight Meets in Lowell, Massachusetts.
The 19-year-old clocked a time of 1:50.05 at Cushing Field Complex at UMass Lowell, good enough to claim third place.
Accompanying him was coach Gerry Swan, who said he was pleased with the performance.
“He executed a number of good aspects to his race as he passed three runners over the last 100 metres and was closing the gap on the two leading runners before running out of real estate.
“The first three runners, that included Dill, crossed the finish line within a span of 0.41 seconds.”
Dill began his 2013 competitive season a month ago at the three-day Sea Ray Relays Meet at the University of Tennessee.
At that meet he competed in the Open section of the men's 400 and 800 metre showcase event, finishing fifth (48.14) in the 400m and third (1:50.48) in the 800m.
Plans are now underway to have Dill compete in the fourth and final New Balance Boston Twilight meet on June 8 in Waltham, Massachusetts and the New England Open Track and Field Championships toward the end of June.
