Fox and Mouchette lead Pacers team in Toronto

Juma Mouchette and Rachel Fox will be the two senior members of the Bermuda Pacers team which travels to Canada tomorrow for the Flying Angels International Classic in Toronto on the weekend.

The Bermuda Pacers will take a team of 18 athletes to compete in the Flying Angels International Classic in Toronto this weekend. The team will leave for Canada today, accompanied by coaches Cal Simons and Norbert Simons and club executives Sonina Lottimore and Karen Tucker and two parents. Middle distance runners Rachel Fox and Juma Mouchette, both 18, will be the senior members of the Pacers team which is competing in Canada for the first time, having travelled annually to the East Coast Invitational meet for many years. A team of 30 will leave for that meet on July 17 to North Carolina.Cal Simons said the Canada trip was an exciting one for the club, where each athlete can compete in a maximum three events. Fox will run the 400 and 800 metres while Mouchette will compete in the 800, 1,500 and 3,00 metres. The Pacers members will compete in 49 individual events as well as the 11-12, 4x100 metres relay (Ice’ces Jackson, Thandiewe Stovell, Kazaya Sealy and Makeysia Wilson-Deshield).“The club is really excited about the whole experience, as we normally go to the United States for events such as the East Coast and the United Age Group coaching event,” said Simons.“A couple of years ago we were invited to this event in Canada and it will give us an opportunity to go and see what it’s like. Most of the athletes that are going are representing the club for the first time.“The two senior athletes, Rachel and Juma, will be the leaders. For us our main focus is to see what the level of the competition is like so that we can determine if next year we want to take a bigger team. It gives us an option to take athletes to a totally different track meet.“The main goal is for them to get the exposure and also to take a look at this track meet to see how it can help in the development of our athletes. I think they should do fairly well, we’ve been training hard all year. It’s going to be a nice eye-opening experience for most of them. The kids are excited about going. We leave on Thursday and return on Tuesday.”Pacers team:8 and under girls — Jahstice Grant (100, 200, 400 metres), Kiyare Talbot-Minors (100, 200, 400 metres).9-10 girls — Tesyah-Mahle Astwood (400, 800, 1500 metres), Kimora Rubaine (800, 1500 metres), Za’kayza Parsons (100, 200 metres, long jump), Ciara Johnson (100, 200 metres).11-12 girls — Ice’ces Jackson (200, 400, 4x100m relay), Makayla Tucker (200, 400 metres, long jump), Thandiewe Stovell (200, 400, 4x100m relay), Kazaya Sealy (100, 200, 4x100m relay), Makeysia Wilson-DeShield (100, 200, 4x100m relay).13-14 girls — Syriah Lottimore (100, 200m, long jump).17-18 — Rachel Fox (400, 800 metres).11-12 boys — Zakiyah Lee (100, 200m, long jump), Jayden Ming (800, 1500 metres), Clevonte Lodge-Bean (100, 200 metres), Sajan Harvey (400, 800, 1500 metres).15-16 boys — Jahmari Sutton (400, 800, 1500 metres).17-18 boys — Juma Mouchette (800, 1500, 3000 metres).
