Webb and Minors shine at US meets
Bermudian Kyle Webb ran a blistering 21.19sec 200 metres to win his heat at the Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships in Geneva, Ohio last night.
The sprinter, a junior at Purdue University, comfortably beat the rest of the field to record the fourth fastest time by a Purdue athlete in their history at that distance.
Webb, 20, is also set to compete in the 4x400 relay later today, part of the team that also includes Nicholas Parks, Kinard Rolle and Shawndail McLaren. The team is ranked second in the 4x400 in their conference this season and a win would be Purdue’s first indoor 4x400 relay title.
Meanwhile, another Bermudian, Dage Minors, placed third as part of the Franklin Pierce “A” distance medley relay team at the 48th New England NEICAAA Indoor Championships at Boston University last night. Minors ran the third leg as his team finished in 9:54.79. The event was won by American International “A” in 9:47.22 with Northeastern University “A” second in 9:53.90.
Minors is coming off two outstanding performances last weekend at the Northeast-10 Championships at the Reggie Lewis Centre in Boston. The junior was part of two Northeast-10 Conference titles as he helped lead the team to a third-place finish out of eleven teams.
In the 1000 last Saturday, Minors laid claim to his third career individual indoor Northeast-10 title, running a time of 2:30.27 to finish first and collect ten points for his team.
It was one of two top-five individual finishes for Minors on the day, as he also placed fifth in the 400 metres, with a time of 50.40 seconds to earn four points.
Minors ran the anchor leg on a pair of scoring relays for the Ravens, including the title-winning 4x800 squad.
