A couple of records were broken during the 2025 Middle School Track and Field Championships on Tuesday.

Naomi MacGuinness, of Warwick Academy, broke the under-12 girls 800 metre record with a time of 2min 30.73sec, beating the previous best set by Whitney Institute’s Deanne Lightbourne.

Nadia Henderson, of Bermuda High School, broke the under-13 girls’ turbo javelin record with a throw of 24.90 metres. Henderson, who also finished third in the shot put, beat the six-year record held by Dellwood’s Dominique Brown by more than two metres.

Saltus Grammar’s Chaz Edmead was a double winner after leaping to victory in the over-13 boys triple jump and high jump competitions. Xander Romeo, from Mount Saint Agnes Academy, claimed gold in the under-13 discus and silver in the shot put, while Tahj Bean, from Whitney, won the over-13 shot put and came second in the discus.

After the first day of competition, Whitney Institute (139.5pts) hold a slim 1.5 point lead over last year’s champions Saltus Grammar School. Sandys Secondary Middle School is in third with 133 points.

The final day of competition will take place next Tuesday at the National Sports Centre with the competition starting at 9.30am.
