Bermuda sprinter Miles Outerbridge’s exploits on the track for Montverde Academy have seen him chosen in the Orlando Sentinel All-Area team for track and field.

Outerbridge has enjoyed a great season full of victories, personal bests and consistent top-level performances for the Florida-based school.

The 17-year-old, who is gearing up to compete at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, starting today, expressed pride in his latest achievement.

“I have been very proud of myself this season and especially happy with my progress since moving to boarding school in Florida last year,’’ Outerbridge told The Royal Gazette.

On Monday, his school congratulated the up-and-coming sprinter for his acknowledgement by the primary newspaper of Orlando, Florida and the Central Florida region.

“Congratulations to Miles on an outstanding season and well-earned All-Area recognition,” Montverde Academy said.

On April 24, days after finishing fourth in the under-20 boys 200 metres final at the Carifta Games in Trinidad, Outerbridge claimed victories in both the 100 and 200 metres at the Florida High School Athletic Association district championship.

He followed up those displays with runner-up finishes in both events at the regional championship on May 2 and again at the state championship on May 9.

“Over the course of the season, Outerbridge was a dominant force in both sprint events,” Montverde said.

“In the 100 metres, he earned first-place finishes at the Mount Dora Christian Invitational on March 1, the Florida State Relays on March 28 and the Citrus League Championship on April 8.

“He also ran a personal best time of 10.40 seconds while placing fifth at the highly competitive Pepsi Florida Relays on April 5.

“In the 200 meters, Outerbridge notched wins at the Mount Dora Christian Invitational (March 1), The First Academy Royal Invitational (March 8), Florida State Relays (March 28), and Citrus League Championship (April 8).

“He posted a personal best time of 20.83 seconds in his victory at the Florida State Relays.”
