Caitlyn Bobb favourite for gold after winning 400 semi-final

Caitlyn Bobb is in pole position to win gold at the Junior Pan American Games after qualifying fastest for the 400 metres final.

Bobb won the second of two semi-finals in Asuncion, crossing the line in 52.83 sec, 0.33 seconds clear of Jamaican Shanakaye Anderson, with Brazil’s Julia Ribeiro third in 54.30.

The Bermudian sprinter’s time was also half a second quicker than the time posted by Canadian Dianna Proctor, who won the first semi-final in 53.29 ahead of Paola Loboa, from Colombia, and local runner Montserrath Gauto.

Bobb’s personal best of 51.11 is almost a second quicker than the Junior Pan Am Games record of 52.10, and all the signs are pointing towards Bermuda picking up its first ever goal medal at the under-23 Games when the 400 metres final takes place at 6.10pm Bermuda time on Wednesday.
