Middle-distance runner Dage Minors has made huge strides into the world of administration after he was appointed vice-president of the Bermuda National Athletics Association.

Minors, who was elected to the BNAA board in October, is one of the key appointments made by the BNAA, with new president Jarita Vickers making it her mission to strengthen the sport’s leadership team and advance the mission of athletics in Bermuda.

“I’m humbled and excited to be a part of the team,” Minors told The Royal Gazette.

“I’m looking forward to all that will come with the position and it’s an opportunity for me to share what I know.”

Syriah Lottimore has stepped into the role of general secretary, Karen Tucker has been allotted the position of treasurer, Susan Robinson has been named as assistant general secretary, with Ruby James assigned the role of director.

The BNAA has also established several committees that will play an integral role in shaping the future of the association. Anyone interested in volunteering has been asked to e-mail athleticsbda@gmail.com

The BNAA Cross Country Championships will take place on the grounds of Government House Grounds, starting at 8.30am on Saturday.

Sean Trott is the most high profile athlete confirmed for the championships, with the Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby champion making a return to an event he last entered in 2020, when he finished behind Minors.

“I’m excited to compete again at the BNAA Cross Country Championships,” Trott said.

“Cross country was my first love as a runner, as the grass, hills and strength-based components of cross country aligned with my strengths. I look forward to testing myself on the tough course at Government House.”

Trott could come up against Kallan Richardson, after the two raced together at the Hannover Re Half-Marathon on November 23.

The Horrobin brothers, Nolan and Liam have dominated the under-10 and under-12 categories, with the pair expected to do well on Saturday.

In the under-12 girl event, Yara Muhammad, Aalirah Daniels and Kamari Brooks-Gibbons are the front runners.

Naomi MacGuinness has been a dominant force over the years, with the rising star the favourite to win the girls under-14 race.

Riana Robinson holds the aces in the under-17 girls event, but the boys race could be interesting if Gianluca Bortoli, Tobias Goodchild and Sanchez Smith are at their best on the day.

“We are excited to welcome participants of all ages, from 5 to 70+,” the BNAA said.

“This year, we are thrilled to introduce a brand-new 800 metres race for our youngest competitors aged 5—7, ensuring even more opportunities for families to get moving together.

“Whether you’re joining us competitively or simply for fun, the focus is on community, participation and enjoyment.

“Prizes will be awarded to the BNAA Cross Country Series winners, the champions crowned on race day. For the first time, the schools with the highest entries in the primary, middle and high school divisions also get prizes.”
