Three of Bermuda’s brightest young track talents will be displaying their talent at the VA Showcase in Virginia this weekend.

Miles Outerbridge, Amaris Munya and Arima Turner, who are all enrolled at Montverde Academy, are in Virginia Beach for the three-day event, while Ellise Dickinson, in her fourth year at the Florida-based school, is sidelined by injury.

The three runners will be part of thousands of student-athletes from across the United States, with two separate divisions for elite and developmental athletes.

Outerbridge is making a return to the meet where he made his debut as a freshman in 2024 before he missed out a year ago due to illness. The 17-year-old sprinter is competing in the 200 and 300-metre sprints and is first in action in the heats over the shorter distance at 11.30am Bermuda time on Friday.

“I am feeling pretty confident,” Outerbridge told The Royal Gazette.

“I’m getting back from injury and I feel pretty much back to where I left off. I’m hoping to run a low 21 or 20 seconds in the 200 metres.”

In their introduction of Outerbridge, the meet organisers described the Bermudian as one of the best high school sprinters in the United States.

“Miles Outerbridge is undoubtedly one of the top returning sprinters in the country,” the organisers said.

“As a New Balance Nationals finalist in both the 100 and 200 metres, he knows how to get the job done.

“What kind of crazy times will we see from him in Virginia Beach? But he’s not alone, we have an absolutely stacked line-up of the best athletes in the country attending the 2026 VA Showcase.”

Munya, making her debut at the competition, is running the 1000 metres and sprint medley relay. Turner, a senior at Montverde, is scheduled to compete in the 55-metre dash, 200 metres and sprint medley relay.
