Athlete Caitlyn Bobb is hungry for more top competition after she clocked a season’s best of 54.15sec in the 400 metres in her maiden appearance at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Poland on Friday.

Bobb was fourth in heat seven, won by Henriette Jæger, from Norway, in 52.29. But with only 16 athletes qualifying for the semi-finals, Bobb missed out on progressing to the next round.

“I’m content but I’m obviously hungry for a lot more,” Bobb told The Royal Gazette.

“It wasn’t the result I wanted but I definitely know where I am and where I need to be. I was definitely in the mix for the first 250 metres but then started to just kind of drift off and that’s expected in the 400.

“I drifted off a little too much so I’m going back to the drawing board and definitely taking up some things outdoors. My results really matter because come Commonwealth Games time, obviously you want to do well now, so I’m just taking things in my stride.

“I would say on a scale of one to ten, I would say I’m like a 5 1⁄2 or six. In terms of contentment, I can live with myself, I can go to sleep because I did what I needed to do here.”

The 22-year-old reflected on the lessons she had learnt from the competition and felt that more preparation before heading out to such events could help her in the future.

“Having a couple more weeks under my belt before I come to such a big meet,” she said.

“Compared to others in my field, a lot of them had a good bit of race time. Definitely practice makes perfect. I know I keep saying compete, but that’s really what matters.”

“I am the next coming generation for athletics. I know that I can represent and will represent Bermuda proudly.

“I just have to keep taking some things on my chin. I am 22 and I’m still young in the game so I’m learning things now to implement for later.”
