Senior among three injured in weekend road crashes

Three people, including a senior, have been injured in two separate traffic incidents at the weekend.

Just before 5.50am yesterday, a 74-year-old male motorcyclist was riding south along Hermitage Road near the junction with Devon Spring Road in Devonshire when a 23-year-old male riding north entered his lane and collided with him, police said.

The elder man was initially listed as critical after sustaining what were thought to be serious internal injuries.

However, at the last check his condition was upgraded and he was receiving treatment on a general ward.

The 23-year-old was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired. He suffered facial and other injuries that were not considered to be serious.

A 22-year-old woman was also injured after a two-vehicle collision which took place at about 12.45am on Saturday on Middle Road, Devonshire.

The woman was travelling east when she reportedly overtook two vehicles near the junction with Chaingate Hill and collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction.

She sustained a fractured right leg and lacerations to her body. Her injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
