Husband and wife injured after bike crash in Sandys

A motorcyclist and pillion were injured in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday that resulted in them being flung over a wall and into a bush.

Police attended the scene of the crash at the junction of Somerset Road and Morgan Hill in Sandys at about 4.40pm.

A 56-year-old man was riding a rental scooter west along Somerset Road with his 54-year-old wife, as the passenger, when the incident occurred.

A spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service said: “It appears that as they approached the junction of Somerset Road with Morgan Hill, the man experienced difficulty in negotiating the bend at the said junction.

“The livery cycle collided with a low kerb wall and the impact resulted in both the rider and the passenger being thrown over the wall and into shrubs behind the wall.

“EMTs attended and treated both victims for minor road rash at the scene. The man’s wife also sustained a fractured hip.”

An investigation into the incident is under way. Anyone with any information is asked to call 211 or the main police number 295-0011.
