Trenching to disrupt Southampton traffic next month

Trenching

A reminder was sent to motorists today that part of Middle Road in Southampton will be fully closed for at least one weekend next month.

Belco trench work will affect a stretch between Riviera Road and Rebecca Road on August 6 and 7.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works said: “Depending on the operation's progress, the closure may extend to the following weekend, including Saturday, August 13 and Sunday, August 14.

“The ministry apologies in advance for the inconvenience caused.

“The work will take place between Riviera Road and the Rebecca Road stretch with the road closing at 7am Saturday and reopening 7am Monday.

“Intelligent Trenching representatives will manage traffic controls and traffic control barricades and signage will be in place.

“Access will be granted to residents and emergency vehicles.”

Detour routes will be via South Road, Lighthouse Road, Southampton Princess Road, Camp Hill and Camp Road.

The spokesman said: “The public is advised to use detour routes during the road closure over the two weekends.

“Bus routes will be rerouted to South Road.

“In the interest of the safety of the public and the construction workers, the ministry encourages the public's co-operation.”

Questions about the trench work can be directed to Jonathan Pedro, Belco's project manager, on 295-5111, extension 1441.

Any queries about detours can be directed to Tina Beer-Searle, the acting principal highways engineer for the Ministry of Public Works, on 501-3044.
