The Ministry of Public Works has announced road closures in Pembroke and Smith’s because of continuing works.

There will be a partial road closure on Harrington Sound Road in Smith’s from August 15 until September 9 as Belco continues to pull holes to draw cable through newly placed conduits.

The energy company will be opening three holes near 52 Harrington Sound Road, near the Town Hill Road junction and at the Flatts Belco substation.

The partial lane closures will begin on Monday, August 15 and last until September 9 from 9am to 6pm.

A spokesman for the ministry said: “Motorists are asked to cautiously pass these locations on Harrington Sound Road or to use alternative routes via North Shore Road or South Road for the duration of the works.

“Traffic control will be managed through Belco representatives using temporary traffic lights and signage.”

Additionally, the road closure on Canal Road leading through the underpass at Cedar Avenue in Pembroke will continue until the end of October.

The road closure will be from Canal Road starting after the Dutton Avenue junction next to Marsh Folly Road through the underpass at Cedar Avenue leading to 2 Canal Road in Pembroke.

The works will take place from 7.30am to 6pm daily.

The spokesman said: “Motorists and emergency vehicles will not be allowed to enter Canal Road at the specified sections during these times and are informed not to break through the barriers.

“Traffic controls will be under the Ministry of Public Works representatives.

“Motorists are encouraged to avoid this section of road and use the alternative route via Marsh Folly Road to enter the City of Hamilton.

“The Ministry of Public Works wishes to encourage the full co-operation of the motoring public and apologises for any inconvenience that may result.”
