Downed wires cleared from Swing Bridge

The Swing Bridge (File photograph)

The Swing Bridge to St George’s is clear for traffic after drivers were warned off the crossing earlier today, or to expect delays, because of downed wires.

A police spokesman said it was unclear whether any of the fallen wires were live, and that the cause was not known.

As of 3.20pm, police were helping to direct traffic at the bridge, with the spokesman saying: “Our main concern is safety.”

As of 4.50pm, police advised the bridge was safe to cross.

The spokesman added: “We are grateful for the assistance of Belco in resolving this issue, as well as the patience of the motoring public and area residents.”
