Truck jackknifes near Aquarium

An Island Construction tractor trailer that jack-knifed on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish (Photograph supplied)

A tractor trailer truck bearing construction freight skidded and jackknifed on North Shore Road near the Aquarium last weekend without causing injury.

Zane DeSilva, chief executive of Island Construction Ltd, said on Friday that the accident occurred on a wet road as the vehicle navigated the curve north of the Aquarium and encountered a resident trimming back roadside foliage.

“Quite frankly, I think they could have had warning signs farther up the road,” he said.

“A tractor trailer is a heavy piece of equipment. As you come around the corner, you can only imagine several tons of equipment trying to make a stop there.”

No one was hurt – but Mr DeSilva said it was “fortunate” no bike riders were making the turn at the time.
