A motorcycle rider was briefly unresponsive after being in collision with an unmarked police car on Sunday night.

A police spokesman said that at about 10pm, police and EMTs attended a two-vehicle road traffic collision involving an unmarked police car with officers on patrol duty and a motorcycle near the junction of Hermitage Road and Middle Road, Devonshire.

“Both vehicles were travelling west along Middle Road, when the driver of the police car signalled and slowed the vehicle to make a right-hand turn into the car park at The Bermuda Squash Racquets Association,” police said.

“The motorcycle struck the back of the police car, causing the male rider to be thrown onto the roadway.

“He sustained a laceration to the head and was unresponsive for a short time.“

The spokesman said the injured man was attended to at the scene by EMTs who reported he smelt of alcohol.

He was subsequently transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for further treatment to his injury, which was not considered life-threatening.

Neither of the two officers inside the police vehicle were injured. Both vehicles were extensively damaged.

The area of roadway where the collision occurred was closed while being forensically processed.
