Lane and road closures announced

A number of roads will be taken down to a single lane temporarily over the next few weeks, the Ministry of Public Works announced.

A ministry spokesman said one lane of Lighthouse Road in Southampton, between Middle Road and the Railway Trail, will be closed beginning today so that excavation can take place in the area.

Work will be done daily from 7am until 6pm, and the lane will stay closed until June 9.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area and use Middle Road or South Road during this time.

Palmetto Road, Old Military Road and Frog Lane in Devonshire will also only be open to one lane of traffic because of excavation in the area, the spokesman added.

Work will be done between 7am and 6pm, from June 9 to the end of August.

Drivers can contact principal highways engineer Tina Beer-Searle at 501 3044 with any questions about these closures.

Roads entering and leaving Hamilton will be closed to traffic due to the Liberty Mutual triathlon, which will take place on June 25.

That day, no traffic will be allowed between the west junction of Flora Duffy Hill and Front Street from 7.30am to 11am. Spurling Hill will also be closed.

Pitts Bay and Gorham Roads, along Woodbourne Avenue and Bermudiana Roads, will also be closed during the same time.

Traffic will not be able to travel south on Woodbourne Avenue either, and police or race marshals will direct traffic on Flora Duffy Hill.

The ministry apologised for any inconvenience caused and thanked the public for their co-operation.
