A mechanical issue caused BermudAir to cancel its Christmas Eve flights to New York.

A spokeswoman for the Bermuda-based airline said: “Our technicians discovered a mechanical issue with an aircraft that led to the cancellation of flights to and from Westchester today.

“We sincerely apologise to our affected guests but want to emphasise that nothing is more important to BermudAir than the safety of our passengers and crew.

“We have already rebooked the majority of passengers on the next available flights and our team continues to support the needs of passengers with alternative options.

“We thank everyone for their understanding as we work through this unexpected situation.”
