Traffic controls in place for road race

Traffic controls will be in place in parts of Hamilton on Sunday when triathletes compete in the Liberty Mutual National Sprint Triathlon.

Temporary traffic controls and adjusted speed limits will be in effect between 7.30am and 11am along sections of Front Street, East Broadway, Crow Lane, Bermudiana Road, Gorham Road, Woodbourne Avenue and Pitts Bay Road.

Public works minister Jaché Adams has approved an increase in the speed limit up to 75km/h during that period — but only for athletes taking part in the event.

In a separate advisory, Flora Duffy Hill will be closed during parts of the day for two weeks from July 1, to allow waterline replacement, trenching and paving work to be carried out.

The road will be closed between 7.30am and 6pm daily until July 16.

Access to Devonshire Preschool will be provided via the gate at the Cavendish Road bus layby.

Alternative routes include Court Street, Spurling Hill and Tee Street for westbound travel.

Motorists were encouraged to plan their routes in advance and comply with all traffic controls in place during these periods.
